About the Club
The Tauranga Fish & Dive Club has been a melting pot for a variety of water-related activities - ranging from trout fishing to kayaking - since its formation about 2 decades ago.
The club has its roots in the Tauranga Pleasure Boat Club and the Tauranga Underwater Club, which joined forces and buildt thier own clubrooms at Sulphur Point.
The rooms were officially opened by the Mayor Noel Pope on November 4, 1989, under the name of Tauranga Water Sports Centre, with the Pleasure Boat club and the Underwater Club retaining their separate identities. But as the memberships of the clubs grew, it was felt that the name did not portray what the clubs offered, so the name was changed to the Tauranga Fish and Dive Club.
Popular club activities include fishing contests in the Tauranga Harbour and on the open water, trout fishing events, kayak fishing and trips away, local dives and inter-club events. Club members also meet for social get-togethers like dances, quizzes, membership draws and All Blacks tests.
The club also offers a clubroom with bar and kitchen, as well as members access to boat ramp facilities at Sulphur Point and its own wash-down facility.
The club is open from 5pm to 8.30pm on Fridays and 4.30pm to 8.30pm on Sundays.
